About Us

who we are

The Islamophobia Response Unit (IRU) is an independent charity that provides legal support for people affected by Islamophobic incidents, including anti-Muslim hate crime, in England and Wales.

Our purpose is to provide legal guidance and relevant support, and to provide other help suited to each client’s needs, starting with confidentially reporting their experiences of Islamophobia.

Our focus is to pave legal avenues for you to challenge Islamophobia as you encounter it. If you choose, you can add your voice to our work and share your experiences for others to benefit.

what we do

Since our work is grounded in seeking appropriate legal redress for incidents of Islamophobia including anti-Muslim hate, our efforts are mainly directed at facilitating legal guidance and support.

We believe legal redress through due process is a core part of healing and recovering from incidents of Islamophobia.

IRU staff are also trained to provide basic emotional support if you have experienced an incident or continue to face sustained Islamophobia – and they are available to talk to you.

IRU serves five main functions:

support at
