Interested in volunteering with us?
The commitment of our volunteers across England and Wales ensures that the IRU is able to help as many clients as we can.
We are looking for people who are passionate about what we do, have good communication and organisational skills, and are committed to our clients.
There are three main ways our volunteers help challenge Islamophobia through support and advocacy work.
You will need to be based in the UK and over the age of 19 to volunteer with us.
The application process may include volunteers being subject to checks such as references, identification, DBS and/or police vetting.
“Volunteering as a caseworker at the IRU has given me the perfect opportunity to work on serious and important cases of Islamophobia alongside other legal professionals.”
Volunteer caseworker
The different ways you can get involved

Volunteer Caseworker
Work alongside our staff and our volunteer lawyers to provide practical and emotional support to our clients.
You will work to challenge Islamophobia directly with our clients. This includes conducting strategy phone calls, drafting documents and other tasks.
Volunteer caseworkers tend to have some legal knowledge and are required to complete our online caseworker training programme.

Volunteer Legal supervisor
Work alongside our staff and volunteer caseworkers to provide legal guidance to people who have experienced Islamophobia in the UK.
For this role, we are seeking individuals who have a valid legal practising certificate, ideally with expertise in either criminal, employment, education, housing, public and/or human rights law.
You can also provide ad-hoc assistance if you would like direct client work.

Volunteer ambassador
Volunteer Ambassadors help to raise awareness of our work challenging Islamophobia in the UK.
They attend events to talk about our work and encourage others to get involved in our volunteering and fundraising. We want people who can inspire others to support us, educate people about what we do, and grow our reach.
We choose ambassadors based on their individual merits and relevant credentials.
